Bernadine Nelson, 92, formerly of Princeton, died at 4:55 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 2010, in Peterson's Meadows Retirement Home in Rockford.  She was born Feb. 23, 1918, in Princeton to John A. and Jennie (Anderson) Nelson.  She graduated from Princeton High School in 1935.  She was also a graduate of Northern Illinois University.  She taught in the Rockford public schools for 40 years.  After retiring from public schools she taught at the Learning Center in Rockford College.  She was a member of Bethesda Covenant Church in Rockford and the former Priscilla Circle.  She served on the Bethesda Board of Christian Education, was the Sunday school assistant superintendent, and was the financial secretary of the church for several years.  
Surviving is one nephew, John G. (Mickey) Nelson of Tiskilwa; nieces, Patricia (Frank) Gebeck of Buda and Nancy (Marvin) Frank of Princeton; six great-nephews; and three great-great-nephews; seven great nieces; and nine great-great nieces.  She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Camilla and Edith Nelson, both of Princeton, Helen Swenson-Shell and Lois Nelson, both of Rockford; brothers, Marion, who died in infancy, Raymond, Roger and Harold Nelson, all of Princeton, and Joseph Nelson of Wyanet; nephew, "Rickey" Nelson of Princeton; nieces, Debra Nelson and Karen Richardson, both of Chicago.  Service will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, in Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton, with visitation from noon to service time; the Rev. C. John Weborg will officiate. Burial in Oakland Cemetery, Princeton. Memorials may be directed to the Bethesda Covenant Church in Rockford or the donor's choice.
