Ruby Miller

Ruby Blanche Miller, 92, the daughter of Fred Isaac and Essie (Maxwell) Miller was born March 23, 1913, near Norwich, Iowa, and passed away Sept. 30, 2005, at Elm Heights Park Crest Center in Shenandoah.  Growing up in Tarkio Township of Page County near Norwich, Ruby received her education at Tarkio #8 and Norwich country schools and graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1931.  She received her teaching degree from Peru State College in 1936. Her teaching career spanned nearly 40 years, including a year in Shenandoah school system and the remainder in Rockford, Ill.

Ruby received a Distinguished Service Award from the Rockford Public School System.

Ruby was a member of the Norwich United Methodist Church and participated in many service/community clubs and cultural activities.  She enjoyed gardening, entertaining, traveling, and playing bridge.

Preceding Ruby in death were her parents, sisters, Ruth Miller and Miriam Whitmore, brother, Max Miller, and brother-in-law, Darrel Ketcham.

Survivors include her sister, Kathryn Ketcham of Shenandoah, sister-in-law, Mildred Miller of Shenandoah, brother-in-law, Elton Whitmore of Peachtree, Ga., plus many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A celebration of Ruby's life was held 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Baker Cemetery near Norwich, with Pastor Carl Phillips officiating.

Serving at the memory register was Pam Sorensen while Pam and Megan Berry sang Amazing Grace and On Eagle's Wings.

Casket bearers were Bruce Ketcham, Dennis Ketcham, Ken Ketcham, John Leininger, Bill Miller, Mark Miller, Bruce Nelson and Bob Wright.

Final resting place was in Baker Cemetery, rural Norwich.

Memorials may be directed to the Norwich Methodist Church.

The Selby Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
