Mrs. Esther V. Boyd, 72, 2503 16th Ave., died at 9 p.m. Wednesday in Park Strathmoor Nursing Center after a long illness.
A school teacher for 24 years, Mrs. Boyd taught at Church and Lincoln Park schools, retiring in 1972.  She was active in Montague House and the Ken Rock Community Center in their early years.
Survivors include her husband, George; two brothers, Axel E. and Carl E. Johnson, both of Rockford; and one sister, Phyllis Johnson, Jacksonville.
Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in the Fred C. Olson Mortuary, 1001 2nd Ave.  Burial will be in Willwood Burial Park.  A memorial for the Cora Bannen Missionary Society at Trinity Lutheran Church has been established.

Mrs. Esther V. Boyd, 72, 2503 16th Ave., died at 9 p.m. Wednesday in Park Strathmoor Nursing Center after a long illness.  Born Dec. 16, 1906 in Rockford, daughter of Axel and Hannah Johnson.  Married George S. Boyd in Rockford March 7, 1942.  A school teacher for 24 years, she taught at Church and Lincoln Park schools, retiring in 1972.  Member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Sunday school teacher there for many years.  Member of the Member of the Cora Bannen Missionary Society  of the church.  Graduate of a teachers’ college in Chicago.  Member of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority.  Active in the early years of Montague House and the Ken Rock Community Center.  Survivors include her husband George; two brothers, Axel E and Carl E. Johnson, both of Rockford; and one sister, Phyllis Johnson, Jacksonville.
Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 23, in the FRED C. OLSON MORTUARY, 1001 2nd Ave., with the Rev. John Spangler, associate pastor of the Trinity Lutheran Church, officiating.  Burial will be in Willwood Burial Park.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday.  A memorial for the Cora Bannen Missionary Society has been established in lieu of flowers.
