April 30, 1915- March 29, 2014
Dorothy R. Pedersen, 98, of Rockford, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014, in Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center. Born April 30, 1915, in Chicago, Ill.; the daughter of Albert and Ruth (Newberg) Lundin, and after a divorce and remarriage, stepfather, George Oberg. Dorothy attended Rockford Public Schools and attended Brown's Business College. She married Harry W. Pedersen July 26, 1933; he predeceased her February 13, 1994. Dorothy worked for the Rockford Board of Education from 1958 to 1978. She was a longtime member of First Evangelical Covenant Church, where she was active in women's ministries, a former member of the adult choir, youth counselor, and former director of the children's choir.
She is survived by her daughter, Betty Pedersen; son, Gerald (Diane) Pedersen; grandchildren, Delynn (Steven) Mallen, Scott (Sara) Pedersen, and Marcy (Paul) Weinberg; ten great-grandchildren, Kyle, Gretchen, and Claire Mallen, Drew, Blake, Grace, and Brooke Pedersen, Brianna, Alexis, and Cole Weinberg; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her step-brother, Kenneth Lundin; and step-sister, Loraine Swartz.
Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014, in Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center, 3470 N. Alpine Rd., with Pastor Peter Dibley officiating. Private family graveside service will take place in Arlington Memorial Park. The family prefers memorials to Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center
